Daft Craft Club: Upcycled Elephants
Daft Craft Club is a series at Thread Republic of different workshops for adults who see kids craft sessions and wish they could take part! They'll be fun playful and creative sessions with gluey fingers and lots of colour!
This month we'll be turning milk bottles into elephants using tissue paper, recycled paper, pom poms, sequins, trims and more!

Introduction to Punch Needle at a Touch of Craft
Create your own punch needle artwork using a wide variety of different colours and textures. Start with a practice with four different types of punch needle tool and 3 different types of fabric. You can use this whole time to practice and become a pro at the technique on different materials or you can focus on finishing one piece. If you've caught the bug and can't wait to keep going there'll be a variety of tools available to buy so you can keep going at home.
This workshop will take place at a Touch of Craft- a new craft space in Ossett! Sadly this space is not wheelchair accessible but I do run this workshop in other more accessible spaces. Drinks are availble to purchase for £1, you're welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks too.

Stitched Baskets, Coasters and Placemats at Thread Republic
In this workshop we'll create baskets using cotton cord, colourful thread and scraps of fabric! This creates a soft but durable basket, coaster or placemat. You can choose the shape and add handles or leave it as a bowl shape.
Sewing Skill Level: Basic sewing machine skills needed
You’ll need: Bring your sewing machine- we have a few you can use so please let me know if you'd like to use one of ours, but it's best to learn on your own.

Visible Mending Workshop at Thread Republic
Join us for a relaxed afternoon learning all things mending. Learn about the history of different mending techniques around the world and use vintage darning tools. Technique wise we'll cover darning techniques including traditional, surface and scotch darning on a darning loom and a variety of vintage mushrooms. We'll also cover Japanese mending techniques Sashiko and Boro and more freeform embroidery and patching techniques. Bring things to mend or leave with a range of samples.

Jesmonite Plant Pot Workshop at Kirkstall Forge
Create your own miniature plant pots with artist and maker Kim Searle using a variety of geometric and recycled moulds. Jesmonite was named material of the year 2017, have a go and see why! It's a versatile material that will create a different pot every time - you'll learn how to weigh it, mix it, add colours and textural effects to create a pot unique to you. Pots can be made with pale pastels or vibrant colours, block colours or fantastic marbled effects. You will get to try a type of Jesmonite that will set by the end of the session.

Eco Hub have teamed with Kim of Darn It to bring you this fabulous Punch Needle Workshop.
Create your own punch needle artwork using a wide variety of different colours and textures. Start with a practice with four different types of punch needle tool and 4 different types of fabric. Once you know what works best you'll move onto a bigger piece with a good knowledge of the technique. If you've caught the bug and can't wait to keep going there'll be a variety of tools available to buy so you can keep going at home.

Terrazzo Jesmonite Coasters at the Craft House
Create your own on trend terrazzo coasters using jesmonite and your choice of colours. We'll go through how to make your own terrazzo chips, how to use recycled ones and how to mix and pour jesmonite perfectly. We'll cover how to sand and seal them too so they go away shining. You'll leave with a few finished coasters and the option to make some small pots too.

Create your own on trend terrazzo coasters using jesmonite and your choice of colours. We'll go through how to make your own terrazzo chips, how to use recycled ones and how to mix and pour jesmonite perfectly. We'll cover how to sand and seal them too so they go away shining. You'll leave with a few finished coasters and the option to make some small pots too.

Modern Rag Rug Techniques at the Craft House
Rag Rugging is a technique traditionally used to turn rags into textural rags. In this open ended session you'll learn two versatile rag rug techniques that can be used to make a piece of wall art, homewares, a brooch or more. As rag rugging takes a long time to complete you may not finish your piece in the session (but if you opt to do a brooch you will do) but will go away with tools and skills to complete it. There will be a wide range of fabric scraps, recycled materials, colourful rope, buttons and other things to choose from to make your piece unique.

Poured Candle Making Workshop at the Craft House

FESTIVE PUNCH NEEDLE WORKSHOP at Eco Hub
Eco Hub have teamed with Kim of Darn It to bring you this fabulous Punch Needle Workshop.
Create your own punch needle artwork using a wide variety of different colours and textures. Start with a practice with four different types of punch needle tool and 4 different types of fabric. Once you know what works best you'll move onto a bigger piece with a good knowledge of the technique. If you've caught the bug and can't wait to keep going there'll be a variety of tools available to buy so you can keep going at home.

This workshop will take place in Butlers at Kirkstall Forge. There's a train station on site and Kirkstall Forge wants to encourage sustainability, but if you'd like a parking space let me know and we can get one arranged. The cafe sadly isn't open during workshops but do feel free to bring your own drinks and snacks.

In this mindful and fun workshop you'll get to make your own unique rag wreath. Punch Needle Workshop at Harewood House
In this relaxing and enjoyable 2.5 hour taster session, you will learn the basics of the lovely craft of punch needle work with tutor, maker and multi-crafter Kim.
Kim will show you how to use different styles of punch tool and create different stitches and effects and familiarise you with this on-trend craft. This class offers a whole new crafting experience, enabling you to work on small, fine, projects to large, ambitious pieces and this is a wonderful introductory session.

CANCELLATIONS
If you cancel the place at least 1 month before the date of the workshop you will receive a refund less £5 admin fee, this applies to ALL cancellations.
If less than 1 month of the date, we will only be able to offer a refund if the place can be filled.
If we cancel the workshop a FULL refund will be given or an alternative date will be offered.
Lino Printing at a Touch of Craft
Join craft expert Kim Searle for a fun but informative workshop session, exploring the art of lino printing. Working under Kim's supervision you will learn hwo to handle lino printing tools, how to create an effective design, how to load ink onto your lino and how to produce clear prints.
Skill level: Suitable for beginners as well as those looking for a refresher.
This workshop will take place at a Touch of Craft- a new craft space in Ossett! Sadly this space is not wheelchair accessible but I do run this workshop in other more accessible spaces.
Course conditions:
The workshop needs minimum numbers to run. In the unlikely event it doesn't meet this the workshop will be cancelled. Your booking is secured by payment and if you choose to cancel you get a refund up to 7 days before the event however after that no refund can be given.
There will be hand sanitiser available and spaces will be limited. If you feel unwell, have symptoms of covid or have been in contact with anyone who has please let me know so you can be moved onto a future session. If we go into another lockdown this workshop will be postponed until a safe date.
Visible Mending Workshop at the Craft House
Visible Mending highlights and celebrates the repair process. It is a sustainable way to increase the longevity of the clothes you love and own in a fun and mindful way.
In this session we will cover patching, sashiko stitching, various types of darning, as well as covering a variety of creative embroidery stitches.
You are welcome to bring any clothes that need mending, but your tutor, Kim, will have lots of fabrics on which to try out the techniques.

This session we'll be making our own macrame wall hangings from a variety of colourful cotton cords. You'll learn all the macrame knots you'll need to.
Make a variety of different designs and you should leave with one finished piece and a few instructional sheets to make more at home. You'll have a choice of different patterns to do on the day.

Aromatherapy Poured Candles at Sunny Bank Mill
Create your own poured candles using all natural soy wax, essential oils and scents, decoration, jam jars, vintage tea cups and more. You'll learn how to blend essential oils to create a harmonious blend that's tailored to you. All materials used in this workshop are vegan friendly.
Please note that candles work best if left in the same place for at least 24 hours to set and are best picked up the next day.

Artist bio:
Kim graduated from the University of Huddersfield BA Textile Crafts course in 2012 after specialising in Printmaking with an emphasis on creative work within communities. Since leaving university she’s worked on various projects with a common vein of passing on creative skills and using creativity as a way to build community, support positive mental health and bring people a lot of joy.
She works under the name Darn It! Workshops, primarily delivering creative workshops across the country in galleries, community groups, festivals, events, creative spaces and more. She recognises that everyone learns differently and adapts teaching styles to the individual, tries to only work with venues that are accessible, offers low income options and strongly believes in the benefits of creativity for mental health.

Sunny Bank Mills is an inspirational cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds. Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a wonderful blend of work, leisure and culture.

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.

Modern Rag Rug Techniques at Eco Hub
Rag Rugging is a technique traditionally used to turn rags into textural rags. In this open ended session you'll learn two versatile rag rug techniques that can be used to make a piece of wall art, homewares, a brooch or more. As rag rugging takes a long time to complete you may not finish your piece in the session (but if you opt to do a brooch you will do) but will go away with tools and skills to complete it. There will be a wide range of fabric scraps, recycled materials, colourful rope, buttons and other things to choose from to make your piece unique. This workshop is developed for all abilities.
