It's £25 per person // £22 Low/Unwaged/Students.
This workshop will take place in Butlers at Kirkstall Forge. There's a train station on site and Kirkstall Forge wants to encourage sustainability, but if you'd like a parking space let me know and we can get one arranged. Sadly the cafe will not be open, but you’re welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks.

In this session you'll learn the vintage craft of Rag Rugging, a craft that's been up-cycling rags into rugs for hundreds of years. It takes a while to make a whole rug so in this session you'll get a good taster and will be able to take away materials to continue.. You'll learn two different kinds of rag rugging and lots of tips on how to perfect it. There will be a wide range of fabric scraps, recycled materials, colourful rope, buttons and other things to choose from to make your piece unique.
The workshop costs £25 or £22 low/no income/student,.The workshop will take place at The Craft Barn, a beautiful and airy space in Hadfield!

I normally run this as a 2-2.5 hour workshop but have had lots of requests for a longer session! However even with the added time, as rag rugging takes a long time to complete you may not finish your piece in the session (but if you opt to do a brooch you will do) but will go away with tools and skills to complete it. There will be a wide range of fabric scraps, recycled materials, colourful rope, buttons and other things to choose from to make your piece unique.
The workshop will run 11-3, I'd recommend bringing a packed lunch but there is a few cafes in Sunnybank Mills too.
Suitable for over 15s.
During the workshop everyone will have their own materials and tools and sanitiser and disinfectant will be available. If you feel unwell please let us know and stay home. I'd advise people to wear face masks when moving about the space.
The workshop will take place at Scrap Creative Reuse Art Project, an absolutely amazing space full of recycled materials that can be bought and used for all sorts of creativity. It's an inspiring space with a new zero waste refill station too.

Rag rugging techniques differ historically depending on regional areas. In this session you will be learning techniques that grow quicker than some other ones, and use easy to handle ergonomic tools. All materials and tools are supplied.
Your tutor, Kim Searle, graduated from the University of Huddersfield BA Textile Crafts Course in 2012 after specialising in printmaking with an emphasis on creative work with communities. She offers creative workshops across the country, recognising that everyone learns differently. She strongly believes in the benefits of creativity for mental health.
Refreshments are provided during the morning. Please note as Kim is teaching the Punch Needle class in the afternoon, if you opt to attend both courses no lunch will be provided. We suggest you bring a packed lunch.
